Frequently Asked Questions
Do you see adults and kids?
Yes, we are a family practice and will see adults and also examine kids over 1 year of age. With regards to treatment for kids, depending on the age of the child, treatment needed and behavior, we will discuss with the parent/s if treatment in office will be the best option or a referral to a specialist will be needed.
What dental services does your office provide?
Our office is a general dental practice with our focus being cosmetic dentistry. We provide multiple services to our patients right from cleanings, fillings, extractions, teeth whitening, crowns (same-day), bridges, implants, dentures, smile makeovers.
How are emergency appointments handled at your office?
If you present to our office for an emergency Medford cosmetic dentist visit, our dentist and/or staff will review your medical history and ask you questions about the dental emergency you’re experiencing. This will be followed by any necessary radiographs and a limited problem focused exam. The dentist will then explain the treatment needed. We will make every effort to treat your emergency same day or at the very least provide you with symptom related relief.
Do I need a cleaning every 6 months?
For most patients, a recall visit is set up every 6 months. The American Dental Association recommends adult patients visit their dentist at least once every 6 months to keep their teeth and gums are healthy. Regular dental recall visits and cleanings maintain the health of your teeth and mouth by removing plaque buildup, tartar deposits, stains and preventing the risk of tooth decay and gum disease. Depending on your gum health, our dentist may recommend you to come in once every 3-4 months to get your teeth cleaned and gums checked.
Will I get x-rays every 6 months or every visit?
When you come in as a new patient to our office for comprehensive care, we will check your previous dental radiograph (x-ray) history and take necessary radiographs during that visit which will aid us with diagnosis and treatment plan for your care. During your subsequent appointments, radiographs if needed during treatment will be taken. If we see you for any emergency treatment, we will take limited radiographs (again, as needed) for providing you the treatment to relieve the emergency. We use digital radiographs with minimal radiation doses and follow all guidelines to ensure minimal radiation.
What causes cavities?
Cavities are caused by several factors inter acting and playing a role together. Poor or inadequate oral hygiene, a high sugar diet, frequent snacking, genetics, having more of the cavity causing bacteria in your mouth all play a role in tooth decay or development of cavities. Get help with your cavities by calling our Medford cosmetic dentist offices today.
What can I do to prevent cavities?
Cavities can be prevented or minimized by brushing with a fluoridated tooth paste, flossing your teeth along with using a fluoridated mouth wash. Look for toothpastes and mouthwashes with fluoride!!. Electric tooth brushes have been proved to be more effective at cleaning your teeth and removing plaque compared to manual tooth brushes. Flossing every time you brush your teeth is essential to maintain your oral hygiene. In combination with great oral hygiene, diet plays an important role. Eating sugary foods, drinking high sugar juices/sports drinks/sodas are a big culprit contributing to causing decayed teeth.
Snacking frequently without rinsing teeth allows food to stay lodged on teeth giving cavity causing bacteria ample amounts of time to cause teeth breakdown. Any current incidence of decay in mouth of having had a recent filling or cavity puts patients in a high caries (decay) risk category. Our dentists will discuss with you if you have cavities or are starting to have incipient (small) cavities and what is the best in terms of prevention and treatment. Our aim is to not only to do problem focused treatment but collaboratively work on a treatment and prevention plan to improve your overall dental health.
