1) General and preventive
Dental cleaning
A routine professional Medford cosmetic dentist dental cleaning (called prophylaxis) is a procedure in which a trained dental hygienist or dentist will remove soft debris (plaque) and calcified debris (tartar) from your teeth as well as around your gums followed by flossing and/or using other adjunctive tools to clean in between the teeth. Part of a dental cleaning procedure is also polishing your teeth to give you clean and shiny teeth.
Gross debridement
At times, depending on the build up on your teeth and inflammation around your gums, the cleaning may not be accomplished in 1 visit and may require up to 2 visits. During the first visit, a hygienist or dentist will remove most of the deposits off your teeth enabling your gums to become healthy. The second visit is when the cleaning procedure will be completed.
Fluoride treatments (for adults)
We believe use of fluoride in dentistry is an important aspect of preventive and prophylactic dental care. Fluoride treatments vary based on patient needs and can range from at-home fluoride recommendations to prescription strength Fluoride toothpastes to in-office Fluoride varnish applications every 3-6 months. Fluoride is one of the proven anti cavity treatments. Our Medford cosmetic dentist office varnish applications also help to treat teeth sensitivity. An alternative Fluoride treatment utilizing application of Silver Diamine Fluoride can be used for older adults to arrest the decay process.
Sealants
A Sealant is a protective covering that is normally placed on the chewing surfaces of back teeth(molars) which have not been affected by decay. This is a quick and easy procedure, no teeth numbing involved (yay!!). Sealants can also be done during a dental cleaning appointment. Once applied, sealants protect against 80% of cavities for 2 years and continue to protect against 50% of cavities for up to 4 years. This is a great option of patients who are in a high risk category for dental decay.
Nightguards
Teeth grinding and clenching is experienced by many patients. Some are aware of the problem themselves, some being made aware by symptoms such as headaches, jaw soreness, teeth soreness, teeth sensitivity when waking up in the morning. Most times a hygienist and/or dentist is able to diagnose teeth grinding during a dental exam by evaluating wear patterns on teeth. At times, severe grinding and clenching can also lead to cracks on teeth causing them to fracture.
A night guard is an individually adapted tray that patients wear during sleep to avoid grinding or clenching their teeth. A scan or impression is taken of your top and bottom teeth so a well adapted night guard can be fabricated.

3) Restorative
Composite restorations
Composite restorations are tooth colored fillings placed on teeth which are decayed, chipped, cracked, discolored, as replacement for old silver or amalgam fillings. These fillings have several advantages:
- bond to your natural tooth through chemical and mechanical bonding
- conservative due to their bonding directly to teeth
- easy to repair and replace
- esthetic since they are matched as close to possible to natural shade of teeth
- harden right away so no restrictions for eating/chewing
Crowns
Crowns (caps) are porcelain or porcelain fused to metal or gold coverings placed on teeth when there isn’t sufficient natural structure of the tooth remaining to support a fillings. At times they are placed on teeth that have been treated with root canal treatments to add re enforcement to the tooth. They are also placed on teeth that have been affected with severe wear due to chewing or cracked teeth.
Most crowns nowadays are all porcelain and can resemble natural tooth structure. Based on the condition of your tooth, your dentist may recommend a crown and will discuss the best possible type of crown for you. Get help with your crowns from a qualified Medford cosmetic dentist today by giving us a call or filling out the form on our contact us page.
Inlays and Onlays
Inlays and Onlays are porcelain fillings placed on teeth, as an alternative to composite fillings as they are stronger, longer lasting. They’re usually made with the same porcelain used for crowns (caps), are as esthetic as crowns (caps) and can be done same day as well. They get bonded to the teeth and help to strengthen compromised teeth.

5) Orthodontic treatment
Invisalign/Clear Aligners
Clear aligners are a great way to treat several teeth alignment issues such as crowding/spacing/open bite with front or back teeth/cross bite with front of back teeth. A scan or impression is taken of your teeth along with photos of your face and teeth as initial records for fabrication of aligners. Treatment time can vary from as little as 3-6 months to longer, at times a year. Aligners have to be worn for 20-21 hours/day to allow teeth to be moved to their appropriate positions. This is an esthetic treatment method as aligners are made of a clear durable and functional plastic and most patients adapt to aligners easily. You have to remove aligners when you eat but you do not need to remove them when you sleep. The important thing with aligners is patient compliance!! If you are dedicated to your treatment, then so are we!
